CALL FOR ENTRIES!
Come one, come all – it’s the Annual Susanne Millsaps Performing Songwriter Showcase. Previous finalists have called it “a complete honor”, “a total blast”, and “the best songwriting contest around.” We’re welcoming entries from solo singer‑songwriters only, (sorry, no duos, trios, etc.) performing original music.
Finalists will be selected by a blind judging panel, with scoring based on vocal ability, instrumental ability, and songwriting. Last year’s Showcase winner was local performer Chris Orrock. Ten finalists will be invited to perform Saturday, July 20, 2013, on the main stage of the IAMA Free Folk and Bluegrass Festival at the magificent remodeled Gallivan Center in downtown SLC! A new panel of judges composed of folk music professionals will be in the audience and will select the winners. Their judging criteria will be the same as the initial round, plus the added element of performance value. All performances must be solo and instruments will be limited to what you can carry on stage. No piano will be provided.
This year, first-place winner will have the opportunity to perform on the Main Stage. This will be a paid 30 minute set, directly after the winners are announced. 2nd place prize is $200.00 and 3rd place prize is $100.00 This year we are accepting electronic submissions only via a new Gmail address. Prior to submitting your electronic MP3 files, you will be required to register and submit your payment electronically via Eventbrite. Once you’ve paid and confirmed your entry, you can send your MP3 files with your proof of Eventbrite registration. All entries will then be organized for the pre-judging. Instructions are as follows:
You may send in electronic entries of 2 songs per entry, (written or co-written by you) that showcase your solo sound. Payment of $40.00 via the Eventbrite link will be required in order for any two songs to be included for pre-judging. Multiple entries of 2 songs each, for a fee of $40.00 per entry are acceptable. If you have any questions about entry procedures listed, please email: [email protected] or call Todd Schultz @ 801-243-6704 for clarification.
Finalists will be announced and notified by mid-June 2013. This will allow approximately 30 days to make arrangements to compete on Saturday, July 20, 2013 in the IAMA Free Folk & Bluegrass Festival at the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah
